2005 Show Report

The day started off in the village, where members of the Committee and Judges lead the Reeth Brass Band down through the Village to the show field to open the Show.

The marquees were closed at 10am for judging. In the main ring Horse and Pony classes were judged. This year we had a record number of entrys which meant that keeping to the timetable was going to be a problem.

In the sheep section there was the usual high standard of sheep on show with good entries in all the different classes.

This year we had cattle classes back for the first time since foot and mouth, although these classes were light, standard was very high.

Around the showfield the selection of trade stands was outstanding with stands for everyone from tractors to candyfloss. A dry stone walling demonstration was taking place with a good-sized crowd watching. The open Quoits was also going on next to the Beer Tent.

Back in the main ring at lunch there was a break from the horses. There was Terrier Racing, Pet Judging and Fell Racing all going on.

The Terrier Racing was good fun as we got a lot of crowd participation and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

The Fell Race went up Fremington Edge which over looks the showfield. The racers are part of the British Open Fell Runners Association with races for all classes. In the open race the course record just missed being broken.

Then there were the Coloured classes of horses which were very big classes.

The Mounted Fancy Dress, a lot of local children took part in the fancy dress on their horses.

Then Open Driving Competition, which had twelve horses and carriages and looked very spectacular and well turned out. The Champion Sheep of each section were paraded around the main ring for everyone to see, and then judged by the Referee Judge to find out the best sheep of the show, which was a Texel and Reserve was a Swaledale.

The Vintage Tractors then took a turn going round the main ring for people to see tractors from bygone years.

This is just a small account of things that happened at the 2005 Show.
