2nd July 2021 - This years Show is Cancelled

Tonight we held an outdoor meeting to discuss if Reeth show should proceed this year, and after discussion and consideration, it is with a heavy heart we have decided to cancel the Reeth Show on bank holiday Monday 30th August.

The decision was made on a voting system by the management committee with a unanimous vote of 22 to 0 in favour of cancelling

This has been a terribly difficult decision to make, the decision has been made due to too many risks both financially and protecting our community.

The main reasons for cancelling are

    1. We have not the manpower or the space to put on a covid secure show,

    2. If the restrictions are not lifted or reinforced there would be considerable financial costs

    3. Risk of spreading the virus around the field and local community

    4. Probably the main reason is risk of overcrowding on the show day, we have limited space and not enough room to expand the size of the show fields, and with limited foreign travel at the moment the dale is very would be expecting a significant more number of visitors to the show, and by attracting more visitors we felt we would not be protecting our village and community

We know this will be a disappointment to many but don’t forget we are still in a pandemic, and we still need to protect our community as best we can

We now look forward and start planning for Reeth Show 2022 which is held on Bank Holiday Monday, the 29th of August

    Thank You

    Tony Sunter

What To See

Reeth Show is a traditional Yorkshire Dales agricultural show held every year for one day at the end of August in the picturesque surroundings of Swaledale. It boasts a great selection of trade and entertainment stands for all the family, from candyfloss and bouncy castles to tractors and a licensed bar. The show gets underway when Reeth Brass Band parade through the village, headed by the Show Committee and Judges, to finish in the showground where the band entertain the crowds for the day.

The show's largest marquee contains the hugely well attended horticulture and produce classes as well as walking sticks, handicrafts, handwriting, paintings and photography competitions. Other marquees hold the popular poultry classes and an array of gifts and craft stalls. Around the show field trade stands from the Dales and around the county offer plenty of opportunity for purchasing something original from rural crafts to excellent food.

The main show ring hosts large numbers of the customary horse and pony classes throughout the day including the more colourful categories of Open Driving Competition and Mounted Fancy Dress. Every year this main show ring also hosts a special feature. Elsewhere in the show field the sheep section showcases the best quality sheep breeds in the Dale, next to which there is a display of vintage tractors competing for best in show and during the day and dry stone walling demonstrations take place.

One of the main events of the day is the fell racing competition. The race traditionally goes up Fremington Edge overlooking the show field. The competitors are part of the British Open Fell Runners Association with races for all classes. Each year a prize is offered for breaking the course record.
